You’ve heard how exercise and meditation can improve your mental state, but did you know that writing – and in this case specifically writing a mental health blog – can improve your mental health and set you on the right path to a positive mindset?

Quite often when we are feeling down, anxious or depressed our lives can become quite chaotic. When I had a severe bout of clinical depression I found that it was very difficult to impose processes and techniques to keep organized and avoid becoming chaotic. That did no favours to my ability to carry out my job and negotiate everyday life, I can tell you.
Blogging, however, can create an enjoyable and entertaining discipline around the writing and blogging process. The very fact that you have to turn up at your computer every day and blog for an hour to create meaningful and rich content imposes a discipline that is good for the mind.
Equally, the need to have some tech-savvy ability around maintaining a blogging site can help your mind focus on the technological processes around blogging rather than whatever it is that is making you feel down.
Writing is therapeutic and good for the mind
The very fact of writing something, be it a mental health blog, a novel, a self-help book, a screenplay, or something else can take you out of your depression and into the world you are creating on the page.
Writing is extremely therapeutic in itself. The deep structures around what you are writing can be highly rewarding, and when you have completed a chapter or a complete book or script your heart should sing out with a warm glow of satisfaction and accomplishment.
That can only be good for your mental health.

And when you have designed and published your site, there is typically a great sense of accomplishment. I am someone who has average computer technology skills, but I love delving into the software tools that facilitate building a blog site. There is something fundamentally satisfying and fulfilling about it. It’s all part of how to do blogging and improve your mental health.

Many people start off blogging as a hobby. And that is, of course, an excellent place to start. But there’s nothing wrong with gradually growing into thinking that you might like to blog as a business proposition.

When you write a blog you have to carve out a niche and decide upon things within that niche that you are going to write about. When I started The Successity Blog it was with a view in part to blogging about mental health.
I had been told – and it is true – that writing about your own mental health can be extremely cathartic. And as an additional boon, you might find that your revelations about mental health might help others who are struggling along the way.
You have to be brave, though, and “put yourself out there.” If you are going to write up an effective mental health blog you have to be honest and prepared to expose your heart and your mind to your audience.
